The Hunger Games is a science fiction novel of an American author, Suzanne Collins. It is first published in the United States on September 14, 2008. The Hunger Games tells about a sixteen-year-old teenage girl named Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where the countries of North America once existed. She lives with her ​​mother and sister, Primrose Everdeen, in District 12 in Panem, a country that stands in the ruins of North America destroyed by Capitol. Twelve districts were defeated, and the thirteenth district destroyed. Capitol, a highly advanced metropolis city, holds hegemony over the rest of the nation. Capitol gives district residents the new laws to guarantee peace. As a reminder of the dark days each year so that it does not happen again, it is held The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games are an annual event in which one boy and one girl aged 12 to 18 from each of the 12 districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery as “tributes” to compete in a televised battle in which only one person can survive. It is given a name of “The Hunger Games” because the winner participant and the district from which he comes will receive a gift of abundant food and guarantee a better life.
