The Hunger Games is a science fiction novel
of an American author, Suzanne Collins. It is first published in the United
States on September 14, 2008.
The Hunger Games tells
about a sixteen-year-old teenage girl named Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a
post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where the countries of North
America once existed. She lives with her
mother
and sister, Primrose Everdeen, in District
12 in Panem, a country that stands in
the ruins of North America destroyed by Capitol.
Twelve districts were defeated,
and the thirteenth district destroyed. Capitol, a highly
advanced metropolis city, holds hegemony over the rest of the nation. Capitol gives district
residents the new laws to guarantee peace. As
a reminder of the dark days
each year so that it does not happen
again, it is held The Hunger Games. The Hunger
Games are an annual event in which one boy and one girl aged 12 to 18 from each
of the 12 districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery as
“tributes” to compete in a televised battle in which only one person can
survive. It is given a name of “The Hunger Games” because the winner participant and the
district from which he comes will receive a gift of abundant food and guarantee
a better life. Those are nice presents for all participants and all districts
in the country because people throughout Panem are always in starvation. The
Hunger Games have simple rules. Twenty-four participants
will be imprisoned in a vast outdoor arena to
compete. During the game days, they have to
fight until death. The last
participant surviving is the winner.
